MICROTONAL GLASS HARMONICA (2022 MODEL)

In 2022 I built a 10-glass microtonal glass harmonica for my pieces ‘Inside the Colour Spectrum’, ‘Spectral Overtones’ and ‘Colour Chord Chart’. The glasses are tuned to a 10-note just intonation scale. The water in the glasses are coloured to code each note from C (red) to C (red) an octave higher.

MICROTONAL GLASS HARMONICA

Built originally to play the my percussion trio Cirrus, the Microtonal Glass Harmonica is tuned to two octaves of Harry Partch’s 29-note to the octave just intonation scale. Six sub-scales within this scale are coloured with dye to help the percussionists navigate the unfamiliar scales. The instrument has since been used for other pieces including Aether that was performed at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.

RGB GLASS RAINBOW MAKER

A custom built wine glass instrument that triggers electronic music and coloured light, violin and piano interior. The water in the three glasses are coloured red, green and blue, which trigger the same colour in light. When two glasses are bowed the coloured lights are mixed to make a secondary colour. This instrument was used in Bowing Rainbows with violin and piano strings and for Iso Colour Mixing that was a 1-hour live stream during the Coronavirus Pandemic.
